Sep 17, 2018

Fort Lauderdale, FL – Juan Carlos Ruiz, Abarca’s Chief Technology Officer, has been selected as a finalist for the South Florida Business Journal’s 2018 Technology Awards-CIO. Juan Carlos is one of only nine CIOs across both private and public companies to earn this recognition.

“Juan Carlos truly demonstrates what it means to be ‘all in,’” said Jason Borschow, Abarca’s CEO. “The Abarca family is proud of him, and we know how much he deserves this recognition.”

Juan Carlos has been a member of the Abarca family since 2009 when he joined the company as the Director of Software Development. Since then, he has been a driving force behind the evolution of Abarca’s technology, including leading the launch of Darwin this year. He has also directed, mentored and supported the company’s tech team.

“Without our strong, passionate, and creative team, I wouldn’t be able to do my job, and I wouldn’t have received this recognition,” said Juan Carlos. “The Abarca tech team carries with the big responsibility of serving the millions of members who depend on our platform for prescription benefits, and we take that responsibility very seriously.”

The CIO Awards honor chief information officers who lead their organizations in delivering business value and innovative use of IT. The awards recognize those who demonstrate an ability to work productively with business partners, and alignment of technology direction with the company’s strategy while showing strong leadership, among other criteria.
