Abarca announces its Oasis Community Program 2022 Beneficiaries!

SAN JUAN, PR – Abarca Health is a different kind of PBM (pharmacy benefit manager) on a mission to find a better way and make healthcare seamless and personalized for everyone. A cornerstone of this mission is their Oasis Community Program (OCP) which supports health-related projects of not-for-profit organizations in Puerto Rico and Florida.

Announcement

Today, Abarca announced the winners of the 3rd edition of the OCP: The Boys & Girls Club of Puerto Rico and Quantum House in Florida. These two entities will receive a grant and volunteer support from Abarcans for up to three years.

The Boys & Girls Club of Puerto Rico offers children and youth hope for a better future and opportunities to develop to their full potential. As an OCP beneficiary, the organization will support its “BE A STAR” bullying prevention program, promoting respect through education initiatives.

Quantum House is a caring and supportive home that lessens the burden for families whose children receive treatment for severe medical conditions in Palm Beach County, Florida. The OCP contribution will help fund meals, housing, and other  needs for families while their children receive medical treatments.

Last year, projects led by five Abarca-selected nonprofit partners reached over 8,000 people. For the OCP 2022, Abarca has announced that they will extend the contract with four of these entities.

Keeping the good work

One of the four organizations is The Diabetes Research Institute Foundation (DRIF) in Florida. Their research aims to stop or delay diabetes progression and ultimately find a cure. The OCP will continue supporting UPR Medical Sciences Campus research on COVID-19 and outdoor aeroallergens in Puerto Rico.

Abarca will also resume aid to Ciencia Puerto Rico in their Seeds of Success initiative—which gives middle and high school girls the opportunity to explore STEM-H careers while being mentored by “Borinqueñas,” women with distinguished careers in science, technology, math, and health. Lastly, the program will support COMSC through educational events for people living with multiple sclerosis and active cancer.

This year, a special donation was also made to Sociedad Pro-Hospital del Niño, a non-profit organization whose primary mission is to contribute to the rehabilitation of children with physical and/or mental disabilities. Additionally, the donation will help provide musical equipment for residents in wheelchairs.

A better way

“Everything we do at Abarca is based on the belief that a better way is possible. We are excited for the opportunity to continue carrying out this mission in collaboration with these organizations, and make a real difference in the lives of people who need it the most,” said Jason Borschow, CEO of Abarca Health.

Abarca selects OCP beneficiaries based on community impact, volunteer opportunities, and alignment with its core values. Abarca employees vote to decide who will participate in the program, and make the final selection.
