Oasis Community Program Raises Awareness on Renal Health

Oasis Community Program renal healthDid | you know that one in three Americans is at risk of developing kidney disease due to the rapid rise of diabetes and high blood pressure? According to the Centers for Disease and Prevention, about 30 million U.S. adults are estimated to have renal disease, and most remain undiagnosed. Kidney disease is currently the ninth leading cause of death in the United States.

The Oasis Community Program renal health initiative highlights the importance of prevention and education. Many people do not notice kidney disease until it reaches advanced stages, since early symptoms are rare. By working with the Consejo Renal of Puerto Rico, Abarca is helping to reduce this public health challenge.

Partnering with Consejo Renal of Puerto Rico

The Oasis Community Program renal health campaign supports the Consejo Renal, an organization dedicated to reducing renal disease on the island through prevention, protection, and education. Its multidisciplinary system includes research, early detection through screening clinics, treatment, quality control, and the development of public policies.

eGFRFirst Platform for Early Detection

Abarcans helped enhance the eGFRFirst platform. This tool enables laboratories across Puerto Rico to report renal function data using the Glomerular Filtration Rate, a key measure to detect kidney disease early. Soon, the platform will also generate maps to visualize data by region and municipality, strengthening public health reporting.

One of the project’s main objectives is to promote this platform within Puerto Rico’s health industry and establish partnerships with insurers to improve care for patients diagnosed with early-stage kidney disease.

Promoting Renal Healt Education and Prevention

As part of the Oasis Community Program renal health campaign, Abarca coordinated educational sessions for its employees. Participants learned if they were at risk, where to get tested, and how to protect their kidney health through prevention and lifestyle choices.

A Community-Driven Approach to Renal Health

Thanks to the Oasis Community Program renal health efforts, Abarca continues to strengthen its impact in Puerto Rico, supporting organizations like Consejo Renal that are dedicated to saving lives through prevention and education.
